Gen Z want it all

New research reveals that Gen Z has now become the most demanding generation with their increasing need for more money, security and perks, according to the latest 2025 Salary Guide from Robert Half.

Data from the 2025 Salary Guide shows two thirds (67%) of hiring managers report that Gen Z was more likely than any other age group to prioritize remuneration with 29% of respondents in this demographic rating pay over job security, compared to 25% of millennials and 23% of Gen X.

“Gen Z might be the most digitally-savvy demographic in the workforce, but according to our research they are also the most demanding when it comes to pay and remuneration,” says Matt Weston, Senior Managing Director UK & Ireland, Robert Half.  “As businesses struggle to balance already limited budgets with the need to recruit and develop emerging generations, employers will need to carefully develop talent attraction strategies which appeal to Gen Z workers who are particularly motivated by jobs that align with their values and give them a sense of purpose.”

“As such, it’s critical that employers find a way to strike the right balance between remuneration and retention strategies that build loyalty longer-term,” says Weston.  “Given that Gen Z are the workforce of the future, and as such are ultimately driven by meaning and purpose, businesses may need to employ alternative engagement methods, such as showing how their role contributes to the larger goals of the company and the world if they are to attract and retain Gen Z talent.  Emphasising the social impact or ethical dimensions of their work and involving them in sustainability or social responsibility initiatives can go a long way.”
